Typical
Noise Levels
The following information is given for guidelines only to allow you to put the
noise levels from our generators into context and to help you determine which
generator is best suited for your needs.
LWA (Acoustic Power) used with the latest EC directives for noise control.
NR (Noise Rating) term commonly used by acoustical consultants and local authorities
for maximum noise levels in residential areas and measured across the frequencies
dB(A) (Decibels) often used term in the UK and best suited to describe noise
that the human ear picks up.
Noise is not measured on a linear scale and
it doubles every 3-5 dB(A) so 83/85 dBA is twice as loud as 80
dBA. Also if two similar pieces of equipment are running simultaneously
adjacent to each other the noise will increase by approximately
3 dBA for example two 80 dBA units will have a combined noise level
of 83 dBA.
